The first trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action Moana trailer has dropped.

Catherine Lagaʻaia plays the title character, taking over from Auliʻi Cravalho, who voices the character in the animated films. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson reprises his role of Maui from the animated films for live action

As Disney notes, the new trailer, “provides a first look at the live-action adventure, introducing audiences to the majestic island and vibrant people of Motunui; the shapeshifting demigod Maui; the intimidating yet adorable tribe of Kakamora; and Lagaʻaia as wayfinder Moana, who sings the powerful line ‘I Am Moana.'”

Who else stars in the film?

The cast also includes John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Moana’s Gramma Tala.

Per the official logline, “Moana (Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.”

The film is directed by Thomas Kali and produced by Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Executive producers are Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth and Cravalho.

When is the live-action ‘Moana’ in theaters?
