On Saturday, Weaver shared a skit on her Instagram account, featuring Manual, but the roles reversed. This time, she was the one approaching him during the signing event with fans.
“Same place. Same people. Plot twist,” Weaver captioned her Instagram post.
Fawn Weaver’s recent bottle signing went viral for the wrong reasons
According to theGrio, the controversial incident came about during Weaver’s bottle-signing event in Georgia. When she arrived, she took pictures with fans outside the building before heading inside.
Manuel then approached her, asking if she remembered him from middle school, claiming they shared the same classes for three years. Weaver responded, telling him she did not remember him.
“Can I tell y’all that this man just said, ‘Do you remember me?’ Make it make sense to me,” Weaver told nearby bystanders. “He said we were in the same class in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.”
“I do not. I’m sorry. I don’t remember the sixth, the seventh, or the eighth grade,” she then told Manuel in front of everyone.
Fawn Weaver said that she was ‘startled’
Later on, Weaver faced backlash with people calling her out for embarrassing Manuel. She addressed the incident in an Instagram video, taking accountability for her actions.
“There are parts of it I would handle differently today. Accountability doesn’t require perfection; it requires ownership, and I’ve taken it,” she said.
“As I stepped out of the car, I would have stopped several times for photos,” she continued. “When I turned, a man I didn’t know was standing directly in my path, inches from my face. No smile, no greeting, just a blank stare. He asked if I knew him from school more than 35 years ago. He mentioned a middle school and two other people.”
Weaver also stated that she was “startled” and didn’t know if she would need security or not, but went along with it anyway.
Fawn Weaver later apologized to her old classmate
During her apology video, Weaver also addressed whether she actually remembered Manuel.
“We had a great connect over cigars and Uncle Nearest shortly after the viral video,” she said, according to theGrio. “And we shared what we remembered. But that didn’t actually help until I saw a 6th grade yearbook pic and then knew who he was, as he looks nothing now like he did then. That said, he’s a super cool person and I’m happy he reconnected me with people from 35+ years ago.”
“We had a lot of fun doing it,” she replied to a commenter, who complimented her reunion skit with Manuel. “Especially, because so many of the people who were standing up close the first time where there and giving us tips on how to redo it most accurately based on their memories. And then the brunch afterwards was even better. Cheers! 🥃🫶🏽”
