Scream 7‘s first trailer has officially been released by Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group.
After the exits of franchise reboot leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, plans for the film were reworked, and now, the seventh film sees Neve Campbell return as Sidney Prescott for the first time since 2022’s Scream (aka Scream 5).
She leads a cast of new and returning cast members, including fellow OG Courteney Cox and newer legacy cast members Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding. New to the franchise are Isabel May, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons and Mark Consuelos.
The film also sees the original film’s writer, Kevin Williamson, penning a Scream film for the first time since Scream 4, and this will be his first time in the director’s chair.
What to know about the ‘Scream 7’ plot
Here’s the official synopsis:
When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.
Franchise lead Melissa Barrera was fired and Jenna Ortega left
In late 2023, Spyglass Media Group controversially ousted Barrera from the lead role of Sam Carpenter after her comments in support of Palestine. Soon after, it was revealed that Ortega would also not return as Tara Carpenter. Her exit was attributed to scheduling conflicts at the time; however, Ortega denied those reports earlier this year, telling The Cut, “The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart. If Scream VII wasn’t going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn’t seem like the right move for me in my career at the time.” Christopher Landon, who was set to direct the film, also parted ways with the project.
Scream 7 is produced by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein. The story is by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, with Williamson and Busick writing the screenplay, based on characters created by Williamson.
