Dancing with the Stars concluded its 34th season on Tuesday, and it was a night full of surprises, including the return of former contestant Normani, who joined finalist Jordan Chiles and her pro partner, Ezra Sosa, for a freestyle routine to the singer’s 2019 hit “Motivation” and Beyoncé’s “Bow Down.”

After the show, Chiles opened up to E! Online about the motivation behind Normani’s return to the DWTS dance floor.

Chiles revealed it was Normani’s idea to join her for her finale performance

Chiles shared that Normani pitched her finale appearance to the gymnast after attending a taping as an audience member in late September.

“She’s the one that actually said, ‘I think I should be in your freestyle,'” she told E! News’ Will Marfuggi. “I didn’t know she was serious until her manager called me and was like, ‘No, she’s being serious. She wants to be in it.'”

Chiles and Sosa quickly set out to “make it one of the most iconic freestyles,” and according to judge Carrie Ann Inaba, it was. She called the routine one of the best she’s seen in the competition show’s 20-year run.

“I came into this wondering what was gonna happen and wondering if I would even make a finale,” Chiles said, “so to know that people are saying my freestyle was one of the best freestyle they’ve seen means everything.”

Despite not going home with the Mirror Ball trophy — the gymnast placed third behind Alix Earle and Robert Irwin, who won — the experience proved to her that “anything is possible.”

“We live in a world of different imaginations, different dreams, different realities,” she told E! Online. “Words can’t express how grateful I am to be a part of this show.”

The 24-year-old shared that her experience on the show may inspire “some different dance moves on my floor routine this season.”

Normani appeared on Season 24 of Dancing with the Stars and was partnered with pro Val Chmerkovskiy. Like Chiles, she placed third behind David Ross and the winner, Rashad Jennings, ESPN reported.

Chiles may not have been Tuesday night’s big winner, but fans are marveling over the gymnast’s finale performance and Normani’s surprise cameo.
