The immediate arrest of former NBA champion Shannon Brown has people furious after comparing the police department's response to the delayed arrests in connection to the killing of Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick, Georgia.

According to The Citizen, Brown was arrested on May 2 after two people he didn't know entered his home. He shot five rounds at them before they left his property and later called the police. 

Even after Brown told police that he thought the couple was breaking into his home, Tyrone Police Department officers arrested him and charged him with aggravated assault, TMZ reported. The people who entered Brown's home without his permission said they saw a "for sale" sign and the front gate was open.

Brown's arrest sparked fury online just days after a video of the shooting death of Arbery was released and both suspects were subsequently arrested. Travis and Gregory McMichael chased, shot and killed Arbery because they thought he was involved in a series of burglaries.

The comparison of the two incidents, both happening in Georgia, has left many people angered.

Many high-profile Black commentators spoke about the situation.

For most people, the story represented the wide gap between how police, especially those in Georgia, treat allegations against white people versus allegations of criminal activity against Black people.

Even one of Brown's former teammates commented on the discrepancy.

For dozens of people, Brown's arrest was a stark reminder of how unfair the legal system is. 

Tyrone Police Department spokesman Philip Nelson gave The Citizen a detailed explanation for why the two people felt they were justified in walking into Brown's home without permission. 

According to TMZ, Brown was bonded out of jail on May 4.
