Last night saw the 20th MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards ceremony. For two decades now, the UK has celebrated music of black origin with an awards ceremony showcasing some of the best artists in the UK. If you missed it, don’t worry, here’s a recap:
Lethal B opened the show with a stylish entrance.
Then he kicked things off with “Fester Skank” and took us back in the day with “Pow.”
Best Hip-Hop ACT — Krept & Konan
The duo were the first winners of the night, making them MOBO award winners three years in a row.
It was definitely the first of many #squad moments of the night.

Next Ella Eyre brought the vocals.
Then things got a bit freaky courtesy of Krept & Konan
Best Grime ACT — Stormzy
Stormzy, looking super suave, was the well-deserved winner of this highly competitive category.
Then Lianne La Havas gave us soulful, “unstoppable” #blackgirlmagic.
Best African Act — Fuse ODG
Fuse made it a hat-trick — three years in a row as Best African Act.
Then, bringing pretty much all the feels: Naughty Boy ft Arrow Benjamin & Shezar performed “Runnin.”
Best Newcomer — Section Boyz
Continuing a big night for Grime (and South London) Section Boyz won their very first MOBO.

Best Male Act — Stormzy
Continuing an amazing night for the young MC, Stormzy beat off both Skepta and Jme to pick up best Male Act.
Best Song — “Shutdown” by Skepta
It was probably inevitable that Skepta would get an award after such an incredible year. He wasn’t there to collect it though, apparently he was otherwise engaged …
Then came a creative performance by FKA Twigs…

Best Female Act — Ella Eyre
After an earlier performance and also having won best newcomer last year, Ella Eyre became the leading lady.
Then we had a performance by Fuse ODG, bringing some African flava to the MOBOs.
MOBO Paving the Way Awards — Lenny Henry & Wiley
Lenny picked up his award and gave an epic roll call of Black British greats in the arts.
Wiley got his award earlier in the week at his old school.
Then Shakka, winner of Best R&B Act (awarded at the MOBO Pre-Show) performed his latest song “Say Nada.”
Best Video — “Pendulum” by FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs won the award for this video that she co-directed herself:
Best Album — Krept & Conan, The Long Way Home
Krept & Konan received their second award of the night, and their fourth MOBO, from the future James Bond (if there’s any justice in the world), Idris Elba.
Outstanding Achievement — CeeLo Green
CeeLo Creen picked up an outstanding achievement award and hit the stage for the finale. There were concerns:
