The Kansas City Chiefs acknowledged in a statement Wednesday night that they are aware of domestic violence allegations made by the ex-girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice.
What did the Chiefs say about the domestic violence allegations?
“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League. We have no further comment at this time,” the team said in a statement obtained by Sam McDowell, sports columnist for The Kansas City Star. The Chief’s statement did not mention Rice nor the accuser by name.
Dacoda Nichole Jones alleged she was the victim of years-long abuse
The Chiefs’ statement comes after Rice’s ex-girlfriend Dacoda Nichole Jones, who shares two children with the 25-year-old receiver, shared a post on Instagram Wednesday afternoon that included photos of a busted lip, bruises all over her body and damage to her new home.
While Jones does not name Rice in her post, she wrote in the post’s caption that the alleged abuse lasted for years and that the she and her ex-partner ended their relationship a few months ago. She accused her ex-partner of being controlling and of physically assaulting her multiple times, including during her pregnancy. Jones also alleged that her ex-partner repeatedly cheated on her and has not checked on or cared for their two children.
As of Wednesday night, Jones has yet to file a police report for domestic violence against Rice in Kansas and Texas, the locations mentioned in her post.
Why was Rice suspended multiple games this season?
In July, Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to two third-degree felony charges stemming from a multicar crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason, ESPN reported.
In August, the NFL suspended Rice for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, a suspension he served at the start of the season.
As of now, Rice has not been charged in connection with Jones’ allegations, per USA Today.
