Mo McRae has joined the cast of Fox Searchlight’s drama Wild, which Reese Witherspoon is attached to star in.
To be directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, Wild, based on the 2012 book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, by Cheryl Strayed, follows a woman with a tumultuous past, who seeks a new start, hiking a thousand miles of the Pacific Coast Trail.
Witherspoon will play the woman.
Meanwhile, McRae will play a journalist who meets Witherspoon’s character while on her journey, hitching a ride on a mountain road.
The Hollywood Reporter compares the film tonally to the Sean Penn-directed Into the Wild, which starred Emile Hirsch.
Principal photography has already begun.
McRae last appeared in Lee Daniels’ The Butler (which is still in theaters), playing Black Panthers leader Eldridge Huggins.
