Masika Kalysha is asking for prayers as she deals with the unexpected and tragic loss of her estranged husband, Jamar Champ. Multiple reports surfaced early in the morning hours of Oct. 29 that Champ died after a car driving on the wrong side of the highway crashed into his Tesla Cybertruck on a Houston, Texas, highway.

The Houston Police Department confirmed in a press release. Champ was 38 years old. Earlier in the day, the former Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood staple took to X to reveal that she’d been up since 2 a.m. that morning before getting the devastating news and asked for prayers for her and her two children.

She shares one daughter with Champ, Amari, who is 3, and another daughter with rapper Fetty Wap.

How did the car cash happen?

Champ’s identity was confirmed by his family to KHOU 11. At the time of the crash, he was in his Tesla Cybertruck when he was hit head-on by a silver BMW that was traveling the wrong way on the freeway. Champ’s Tesla slammed into an 18-wheeler, while the BMC caught fire. Both drivers died.

Masika initially confirmed his passing in an exclusive statement to The Shade Room. “It is with profound sadness that I confirm the news of the tragic and unexpected passing of my spouse and father of my beautiful daughters, Jamar Champ,” she shared. “During this incredibly challenging time, I kindly ask for respect and understanding as our family comes together to support one another and honor his memory.” She concluded, “Your thoughts, prayers and love mean the world to us as we navigate this devastating loss.”

Kalysha posed a tribute on Instagram

She later posted a touching tribute to Champ on Instagram, revealing they’d known one another since 2010. It’s unclear what led to their estrangement, but they became engaged in 2021, four months into dating before they split, reconciled, and wed. She reportedly asked to have the marriage annulled but according to her social media post, they remarried. She remembers Champ as a dedicated businessman, husband, father, and man of God.
