Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) and Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) have been no strangers to viral moments during their time in Congress. An exchange between the two has gone viral and continues to play out on social media.

From 'Chile listen’ to ‘You wanna take it outside…’

From ‘Chile, listen’ to ‘You wanna take it outside?’

In a hearing over a bill to ban trans athletes from sports, Crockett and Mace got into a heated interaction. Crockett accused Mace and Republicans of using the issue as a scare tactic to raise funds from their constituents.

“Somebody’s campaign coffers are struggling right now, so she’s going to keep saying trans trans trans…” Crockett said. “Chile listen…” she continued before being interrupted by Mace, who injected, “I am no child!”

The two women continued to talk simultaneously as the committee chair tried to call for order. Mace could be heard saying, “If you wanna take it outside…” before trailing off.

MeidasTouch Networks’ senior digital editor Acyn Torabi, who posted the clip on X, formerly Twitter, clarified in a reply that Crocket said “chile” and not “child.”

Mace doubles down on Crockett and trans people

The exchange between Crockett and Mace happened during a hearing in which Crockett criticized the Republicans’ focus on trans issues and called for the reestablishment of a subcommittee on civil rights. Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) objected to Mace’s call to “take it outside” as a threat against a fellow member of Congress, but Republican chair James Comer (R-Ky.) ruled that the comment was not a call for violence. Both women continued their comments online. So far, neither is backing down from the confrontation. Mace posted multiple times on X about the exchange. In a post including a video of some of her comments about trans people, Mace added, “yeah – here I am going the f*ck off on Jasmine Crockett to protect women, particularly rape survivors,” continuing her arguments that trans women threaten the safety of other women in locker rooms.

Crockett calls out ‘attention seeking loser’

Crockett also posted about the incident online, calling Mace “an attention seeking loser who clearly has some fundraising goals to hit” and saying, “Please explain to me how the same damn Karen that called Cap Police on a child who shook her hand wanted to act like she wanted to fight me?!”

The comment is about a December incident in which a trans rights advocate was arrested as Mace complained that he “physically accosted” her. The man has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, with some witnesses claiming that he merely shook Mace’s hand while asking her to support trans youth in foster care.

Trans issues are still a hot-button topic in Washington; on Tuesday, a Republican-led bill passed the House that would ban trans athletes from women’s and girls’ sports. With Congress now under Republican control and President-elect Donald Trump set to take office next week, more debates over rights and social issues, and more heated exchanges between vocal Democrats and Republicans, are likely to continue.
