Da’vian Kimbrough is making history as the youngest pro soccer player in American professional team sports. At 13, the forward joins the Sacramento Republic of the second-tier League Championship of the United Soccer League.

Kimbrough, born Feb. 18, 2010, is eligible to play his debut game on Saturday against the Birmingham Legion. According to CBS, in 2021, the soccer player joined the team’s youth academy. When news of his contract was released, Kimbrough was 13.

“Da’vian’s journey with Republic FC is just beginning. He is a remarkable talent who has committed to his dream of becoming an elite player, from competing with players in older age groups and thriving at top competitions to stepping onto the first team training grounds,” Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant said. “We are honored that the Kimbrough family and Da’vian have chosen Republic FC to support his professional pathway, and we look forward to taking the next steps together.”

He initially played for North Bay Elite Futbol Club in Solano County and Woodland Soccer Club of Yolo County. When Kimbrough was 11, he scored 27 goals in 31 matches for the Republic’s under-13 team in 2021.

After much success on the under-13 team, he later moved on to play for the under-14 team in 2022, also joining the under-15 team for some matches. Kimbrough scored six goals this year on the New York Red Bulls Academy team, helping them win the Bassevelde Cup, The Associated Press reported.

In terms of education, the team said Kimbrough will enroll in Republic FC’s education partner — Elk Grove Charter School.

Congratulations to the young player.
