nullIn March, I introduced you all to a new project created by Benjamin Cory Jones (ABC Family’s "Chasing Life"), entitled, “Bros Before Hos”. The pilot presentation tells the story of 3 brothers of color – 2 straight and 1 gay, and their wickedly crazy life and romance issues.

The teaser trailer went online a few weeks ago and garnered a lot of attention. Now the full pilot presentation is available to view today!

What caught my attention most about the project was that it captures the quirky, nuanced side of black men that we don’t see too often in media. The kick-ass producing team includes Jones, Lena Waithe ("Dear White People"), and Mark Taylor.  It’s Executive produced and directed by Anthony Hemingway ("Red Tails").

Ben had the following to say in March about the project: "Bros Before Hos isn’t a black story or a gay story – it’s a family story about three brothers, who happen to be black, and one who happens to be gay. I do have a particular interest in stories about the black male experience because I want to tell stories that reflect how I walk through the world. There seem to be more stories that deal with the interior lives of black women, but it’s hard to find stories that deal with the interior lives of black men. We’re either thugs or athletes, but there’s so much more to who we are that falls in between that spectrum. It’s ironic that in 2014, and even with a black president, one of the hardest things to be in this country right now is a young black man. So, yes, I am voracious about presenting images of black men that reflect our everyday humanity. Plus, I went to Morehouse, and I don’t want them to take back my degree if I’m not moving the needle forward."

I was able to catch it and I have to be honest, I watched it a few times. I get excited when I see everyday people of color performing to well written dialogue. I cringed a bit when I saw the title of the project. However, I came to realize that the term ‘ho’ stands for any love interest that may or may not be a loser. Regardless, this project is beautifully shot and is just laugh-out-loud funny.

The goal of the producers is to get this show on television, so if you dig it, you should share it, like it and comment.
