More news from the ongoing American Film Market (AMF)…

Danny Glover and Derek Luke will star alongside Brian Dennehy and Phil Driscoll in the prison drama Long Day Journey, which is based on Driscoll's own real-life story of imprisonment for tax evasion.

Driscoll, a world-class trumpet player, singer and composer, makes his feature film debut by taking on the lead role of a broken man who, at the height of his musical career and ministry, loses it all when he is whisked off to prison and separated from his family and ministry. Through his journey and fellow inmates, Driscoll discovers the path to freedom through his music, leaving his incarceration a happier and better man and the world he left inside a better place.

The film will be shot in 3D for some reason, with Francis Delia directing from a script penned by Driscoll, who will naturally play himself in the film, while Glover and Luke will co-star as fellow prison inmates, who show Driscoll how to safely navigate his way within prison walls, and survive.

Dennehy will play the usual mean prison warden, and finally, Robert LaSardo will take on the role of the most feared inmate – the heavily tattooed and menacing “Malocchio,” while former San Francisco 49er, Mike Barber will play the chaplain, a role he also plays in real life at Angora.

Saboa Entertainment is backing the production, with Hybrid Entertainment handling worldwide sales.

You can’t go through the devastation I went through without it being a life-changing experience… The time I spent in prison opened my eyes and gave me a perspective on life that I could not have found on my own. My time there was the most devastating time of my life. But looking around me, I saw men and families that were destroyed forever,” said Driscoll, who will also produce and score the film.

Long Day Journey is further described as an inspirational tale of faith, redemption, friendship and the healing power of music.

Glover, who will interestingly sing the film’s title track, is currently shooting the Curacao slave uprising drama, Tula, The Revolt, while Luke is busy with the rom-com, Baggage Claim.
