How close is Nick from getting uninvited from the cookout?
This close. Literally this close.
But why? What did he do that was so terrible?
Several things. Nick has been teetering on the line of awful for a while. The most recent example of his trash is this casting call.
@nickjonas @AmyGossels think about what you are telling people of color with this notice. #ethnicflair #casting pic.twitter.com/odnnCH7nAb

Wow. That’s really bad. It’s a reflection of the racism in entertainment.
Exactly. This casting call eliminates space for black women. It’s not a great look for an industry that has a sustained history of being extremely white.
But Nick probably had very little to do with this casting call.
Probably. But the casting call is a direct reflection of “the kind of girls Nick Jonas would have a crush on.” He has dated Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Olivia Culpo, all of whom are a perfect fit to his casting call. Still, his name is attached to it, and people were not happy about it.

@nadiadreid @nickjonas “a bit of an ethnic flair”
Uh, do they not realize how seriously wrong that is?— Aleyna Rentz (@aleyna_rentz) June 1, 2016
Wow. That’s pretty awful.
Exactly. What makes this situation worse is his involvement in R&B music. He is a white man in a traditionally black genre.
So white people can’t make R&B music now?
No! Not at all. I bop to Ariana Grande on the regular.
So why does it matter?
It matters because he and his camp are blockading black women from being involved in the visual aspect of his music – music that is located in a traditionally black genre. He is clearly inspired by (and makes money off) black R&B musicians. But he seems to not want to place black women in the visual aspect of his music. This is not new a new thing. Men of all ethnicities are regularly anti-black women.
Oh wow. I see what you’re saying. That’s rough.
Yes. It really is. Especially because I (a black woman) had a solid crush on him for 3 years of my adolescent life.
I do hope @nickjonas casting call really is fake considering it excludes people like me who are big fans of his. ☹️

What else did he do?
His “allyship” to the LGBTQIA community is really bad…like really really bad.
Oh yeah, I heard he gave a speech or something. What happened?
Nick took up space at the Stonewall Inn in the wake of the tragedy. It pissed a TON of people off.

That many?
Yes, that many. Think of a high number in your head, then multiply it by 7,883,029,073,929. Now double it. That’s how many.
Y’all will literally let a straight white man take center stage over the graves of queer latino victims before letting QPOC have the floor.
— Saeed Jones (@theferocity) June 14, 2016
50 LGBT POC died in a violent massacre and Nick Jonas got to make a speech about it outside of Stonewall. Is this a SNL sketch or real life?
— Phillip Van De Kamp (@MajorPhilebrity) June 14, 2016
I assure you there are many other Latino LGBT folk who could have taken Nick Jonas’s place at the Stonewall vigil.
— Leo. (@translexa) June 14, 2016
If Nick Jonas gets to speak over LGBT people go ahead and invite Azealia Banks, Vladimir Putin and the homophobic dude from Sacramento.
— 無感覚 (@MalePocahontas) June 16, 2016
Wow. That was really NOT the move.
EXACTLY! You know what makes this worse? His album dropped the day before he made his “speech” in Manhattan. So it made everyone think that he was, in a weird way, trying to monetize a tragedy.

Forgive me that I do not think it is a coincidence that Nick Jonas’s album just came out and tonight he opted to speak over queer voices.
— Sam Escobar (@myhairisblue) June 14, 2016
It seems to me that Nick should not be invited to the cookout.
You’re so right. He is colorist (and little racist), initiated the break up of my favorite boy band, and is exploiting a community for monetary gain in the midst of a tragedy. I’m revoking his cookout pass. He can put in an application for an invitation in 7 months.
