A few lucky New Yorkers will have a chance to party with Frank Ocean.
On Wednesday, Ocean announced PrEP+, a queer dance party scheduled for Thursday night, according to Hypebeast. Blonded, his creative company, will host the party which is named after pre-exposure prophylaxis, an HIV-prevention drug.
PrEP is taken by people who have a high risk of contracting HIV, according to the Centers for Disease Control. If appropriately taken by an HIV-negative person, it reduces the chance of transmission by 99%.
The party is supposed to pay “homage to what could have been of the 1980s’ NYC club scene if the drug … had been invented in that era.”
Tickets haven't been issued yet, but the location will be shared with those lucky patrons as the time draws near. The partygoers also have to follow a strict set of house rules.
“House Rules: No photos or videos are allowed; Consent is mandatory; Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form of discrimination; [and]The dance floor is for dancing.”
Ocean described his fascination with nightlife in a W Magazine interview released in late September.
“I’ve been interested in club, and the many different iterations of nightlife for music and songs. And so the things I look at now have a lot to do with those scenes: Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic,” he said.
The famously elusive “Novacane” singer is also working on a new album, but of course, he doesn’t want everyone in his business.
“I believed for a very long time that there was strength in vulnerability, and I really don’t believe that anymore. ‘Strength’ and ‘vulnerability’ sound opposite as words. And so to combine them sounds wise, but I don’t know if it is wise,” Ocean explained.
“It’s just this realization that hit me, ‘Oh, right, it’s a choice whether you will be truthful or a liar.’ If I start to tell a story and then I decide not to tell the story anymore, I can stop. It’s my story,” he added.
Instead, he wants to use his imagination.
“The expectation for artists to be vulnerable and truthful is a lot, you know?—when it’s no longer a choice. Like, in order for me to satisfy expectations, there needs to be an outpouring of my heart or my experiences in a very truthful, vulnerable way,” he continued. “I’m more interested in lies than that. Like, give me a full motion-picture fantasy.”
Before you ask, he doesn’t have a release date yet.
