Only a week after Botham Shem Jean was shot and killed by off-duty police officer Amber Guyer, the efforts to make him look remotely deserving of his tragic death have commenced.
On Thursday, FOX 4 News reported that a search warrant led investigators to find marijuana in Jean's apartment, the same residence Guyer claimed she believed was hers which allegedly drove her to kill him. According to Fox, the release of the document became public on the same day of his funeral, leaving his family disgusted and outraged.
“I think it’s unfortunate that law enforcement begins to immediately criminalize the victim — in this case, someone who was clearly the victim that has absolutely no bearing on the fact that he was shot in his home,” said Lee Merritt, an attorney for Jean’s family. “I would love to see more information coming out about the warrants executed on the home of the shooter who lived just below him. I haven’t seen any of those. And particularly for it to be on this day the day that we remember and celebrate him… to see the common assassination attempt on the victim that we often see in law enforcement involved shootings.”

Those who pay attention to the cycle are all too familiar with this rodeo. Although recreational marijuana is legal in nine states and medical marijuana is legal in 30, it's an obvious tactic to criminalize him.
“This is nothing but a disgusting attempt to assassinate the character of a wonderful young man,” Ben Crump, another attorney for the Jean family, added.
The sentiments of Jean's family and attorneys have been mirrored throughout social media since the nonsensical report.
BOTHAM. JEAN. WAS. KILLED. BEFORE. THEY. FUCKING. EVEN. EXECUTED. THE. WARRANT!
Seriosusly: fuck you, @DallasPD.

What does that have to do with this man being shot dead in his own home?
Oh that’s right, Fox has a narrative & duty to amplify irrelevant information that is clearly motivated by Racial Animus.
Stereotype much Fox? Seriously shame on you & shame on the person who leaked this.— SpicyFiles (@SpicyFiles) September 14, 2018
Did they search the cops apartment? She's the one who committed murder.

'Innocent man who was murdered by a police officer who unjustly broke into his home has his entire life dug up by cops trying to justify their actions' is a better headline, try that next time.

This is an attack on an innocent man who was killed by a cop for simply existing in his own home. PERIOD.
Botham Jean should still be alive and Black. Lives. Matter. https://t.co/F5MFtHABzX

Despite the attempt at assassinating Jean's character, he is remembered as a well-respected man with an esteemed reputation.
