The festival will be held on Benjamin Franklin Parkway again despite a controversial feud between organizer Jay-Z and local politicians. The “99 Problems” rapper wrote a critical op-ed last July after Mayor Jim Kenney tried to get the event moved out of the city, as Blavity previously reported.
“We are disappointed that the mayor of the city of Philadelphia would evict us from the heart of the city, through a media outlet, without a sit-down meeting, notice, dialogue, or proper communication,” he wrote. “It signifies zero appreciation for what Made In America has built alongside the phenomenal citizens of this city. In fact, this administration immediately greeted us with a legal letter trying to stop the 2018 event.”
Eventually, both parties came to an agreement, and the feud was written off as a “misunderstanding,” according to Philly Voice.
"I am greatly appreciative of everything that Made in America has done for the City of Philadelphia and I remain committed to its continued success," Kenney said.
"The Made in America festival belongs in Philadelphia – the birthplace of our country – and I’m optimistic that we can turn an unfortunate misunderstanding into a positive outcome and even stronger event. I look forward to working with Roc Nation and Live Nation and maintaining this Philadelphia tradition for years to come."
Tickets are already available to Tidal subscribers and American Express cardholders. Passes will be available to the general public on April 5.
