Congratulations, you’ve just about made it through summer! Soon sweaty blazers and humidity-violated twist-outs will be a thing of the past. We’re getting into the fall season where the air is dryer, the kneecaps are ashier, the leaves are more brown and the lips more chapped. All in all, we need to get all the moisture we can get out here. The most basic and useful source of moisture will always be water. I know, you’re probably tired of hearing about it. But water will always be a necessity.

That being said, drinking water is universally viewed as one of the best things you can do for a healthier you. It has been known to help with weight loss, flushing out toxins, clearing skin and many other benefits not limited to just health. Listen, I hear you. I, myself, struggle with drinking water. But I realized how unhealthy drinks are these days and came to terms with the fact that I need some H2O in my life. See below for a few tips on how you can make the change!

1. Be prepared: If you fill up multiple water bottles the night before and keep them in the fridge, you can grab them on your way out the door when heading to work or school and finish them throughout the day. This saves you time in the morning and reduces the temptation to drink juice or other sugary drinks.

2. Don’t waste any time: Have a glass of water right when you wake up. This can refresh you in the morning and you don’t even have to think twice about it. Making this a habit can help you wake up and get ready for the day.

3. Have those receipts ready: Having a large water bottle with clearly marked measurement units helps motivate you throughout the day. If you have a half gallon container, for example, it will help you feel like you’re making serious progress (and you are). You also won’t have to refill as much.

4. Before and after: Having a glass of water before and after meals is extremely beneficial. Doing this can help you to not overeat.

5. Map it out: I personally carry around a large gallon of water to have set #goals to drink each day. I know that by the end of the day I should be done with my water. It’s a concrete goal that’s easy to measure. (I got mine from Walmart.)

6. Stuntin’ is a habit: Get in the habit of sipping on water. Essentially taking small sips of water every now and then, even if you’re not necessarily thirsty.

7. Add some flavor: If you’re like me, the taste of water can get a little too monotonous and you might want to switch things up. I like to add lemon juice/slices or fruit slices to my water to give it a tangy taste. It’s almost like you’re drinking juice, but without all the unnecessary sugar. (And I love juice. So this is a favorite.) Beyoncé does it too.

8. Keep it “real close”: Have water bottle by your work desk/station. Make sure you use water bottles that you can take with you wherever you go so you don’t have to do any extra work to get them sips in. (You’ll likely end up opting for the water just from sheer laziness.)

9. There’s an app for that: Try Waterlogged for iPhone or Water Your Body (for Android and iPhone). But if you’re not into apps or that phone storage looking scarce, you could always set reminders on your phone to help you remember to drink water throughout the day.

10. Spice it up, boo: Order spicy food. Seriously. Eating spicy food will force you to drink water multiple times during your meal. Plus spicy foods like hot peppers are great for boosting metabolism. (Spicy food is the GOAT.)

BONUS: Make it ’bout the money: Remember your pocket and make it a goal to order only water when you go out to eat. This way you cut back on money and calories all while flushing out your system. I struggle with drinking water just like you, but if I can save that $2.50 off my restaurant tab best believe I’m knee-deep in that tap water fam.
