GOP lawmakers are known for pushing out proposals for absurd laws, and with Donald Trump now serving as President, the new proposals are anything but progressive. In Mississippi, The Huffington Post reported that Tom Weathersby, a Republican serving in the state’s House of Representatives, has proposed a law that would make it "unlawful for any person to wear pants, shorts or clothing bottoms that exposes underwear or body parts in an indecent or vulgar manner." A law like this is certain to apply heavily to people and neighborhoods of color and is basically just a law to protect racial profiling.

Mississippi will join states like New Jersey and Florida, who also passed similar laws. The fines can be reached up to $100 dollars and may include “psychological and social counseling by the Department of Human Services and the Department of Mental Health.” In places like Tennesse, high school students were even put in jail.

After threatening legal action back in 2014, the NAACP Florida Chapter got the Ocala City Council in Florida to vote and repeal an ordinance banning a saggy pants law. They argued that black males would be the subject of such a law. A quick Google search of "saggy pants" makes that very clear.
