University of Pennsylvania Law Professor Amy Wax made racist remarks while speaking at a conference in Washington D.C. Now, students are demanding that she be fired from her role as a professor at the esteemed Ivy League institution.

Wax spoke on immigration policy at the National Conservatism Conference last week where she spoke on immigration. During the address, she stated her belief that the country will be at its best if whites constitute the vast majority of the population.

"[I]n effect means taking the position that our country will be better off with more whites and fewer nonwhites,” Wax said according to The Hill.

The National Conservatism Conference, a gathering for high-profile conservatives and media figures, took place at D.C.'s Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Wax also said that immigrants are "too loud," responsible for "litter," and advocated for immigration policy that "favors" immigrants from western Europe, according to Vox.

The Law School Dean Ted Rutger denounced her comments as bigoted, repugnant, racist in a statement that was published on the school’s official website.

“I write now to emphasize how fundamentally the substantive views attributed to Professor Wax contravene our institutional values and policies.” Rutger stated in the statement.

However, students and allies are claiming that more needs to be done to address this situation. A petition that calls for the University of Pennsylvania to hold Wax accountable has 3,227 signatures out of its goal of 5,000. The petition was started by university student, Luis Bravo.

In the description of the petition, Bravo critiques the University's repeated attitude of indifference toward racist staff and faculty.

“While Penn touts itself as a beacon of diversity and inclusion with black and brown students showcased on its admission materials, the administration continues to turn a blind eye to the racism prevalent in its faculty,” Bravo writes.
