A24 has dropped the trailer for Death of a Unicorn, the dark comedy film starring Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega and more.

As the title suggests, and as evidenced by the trailer, it looks like our lead characters….actually kill a unicorn?

Written and directed by Alex Scharfman in his directorial debut, the film also stars Will Poulter, Téa Leoni and Richard E. Grant. Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani and Jessica Hynes also have roles in the film.

What is ‘Death of a Unicorn’ about?

Here’s the logline for the movie:

A father (Paul Rudd) and daughter (Jenna Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Richard E. Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.

Death of a Unicorn was shot in the summer of 2023 under a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement during the dueling strikes.

When does ‘Death of a Unicorn’ come out?

Producers are Scharfman, Tyler Campellone, Tim Headington, Drew Houpt, Lucas Joaquin, Lars Knudsen and Theresa Steele Page. Executive producers include Ari Aster, Ortega and Redd.

The film doesn’t have a release date yet, we only know that it will drop in 2025. However, with the trailer dropping before the year is out, we can suspect that it would, at the very least, drop sometime during the first half of next year.
