Thousands of people are under the advisement of the New Jersey Department of Health to report for blood testing after the HealthPlus Surgery Center in Saddle Brook announced patients might have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis B and C.

Between January and September 7, 2018, 3,778 patients may have been exposed before a state investigation found staff members weren't following proper sanitation procedures. This investigation led to a facility shutdown from September 7-28 before reopening, CBS New York reported.

According to 10TV, the possible exposure is due to a lack of cleanliness concerning instruments and injections.

“It is important to note that to date, there have not been reports of any infections or illness related to the investigation,” Betty McCabe, a center administrator, said. “We recognize that this may be upsetting to our patients, and we are taking this matter very seriously and taking steps to assist them during this process. To that end, we have provided information about where and when they can get tested, as well as offered to pay for all medical costs associated with testing.”
