Nipsey Hussle's efforts to improve his South Los Angeles community will be entered into the Congressional Record and officially recognized by the government of the United States.

Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), who represents parts of Los Angeles, wants to ensure Hussle’s work and legacy will “be a piece of United States history forever.”

I will be heading to the House Floor next week to formally enter Nipsey Hussle’s contributions to South Los Angeles into the Congressional Record where it will be a part of United States history forever.

Nipsey Hussle, who was born Ermias Asghedom, was shot and killed March 31 outside of his clothing store in Los Angeles. Since his death, there has been an outpouring of support and appreciation for the rapper from fans and non-fans alike. Efforts have also been made to rename the intersection of Crenshaw Blvd and Slauson Ave, where Hussle’s Marathon clothing store is located, to “Nipsey Hussle Way”.

In an interview with ABC news, Hussle's brother, Samiel Asghedom, said the rapper was a role model for his his community.

"He was somebody that believed in the process of hard work, determination and just the positivity of somebody staying in the area that he grew up in and making something out of nothing," Asghedom said. "He was a role model to the community, to the kids, and to the mothers and the grandmothers and the community that watched him grow up and seen him as a youngster, a family man, a father, raising his kids."

Other Los Angeles natives, like NBA star point guard Russell Westbrook, have offered their own homages to the man Nipsey Hussle worked to become.

“That was for Nipsey," Westbrook said after completing the second 20-20-20 game in NBA history. "Rest in peace to Nipsey, man.”

Outside of his music and business endeavors, Nipsey Hussle's philanthropic work included opening a STEM community center for children from economically disadvantaged communities and meeting with the Los Angeles Police Department to create a plan to end gang violence in the area.
