Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jacob Latimore, and Jonathan Majors are starring in the upcoming film Gully from Romulus Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Nabil Elderkin and written by Marcus Guillory, will be in select theaters June 4 and available On Demand and digitally on June 8.

The film focuses on three friends, played by Charlie Plummer, Harrison, and Latimore, who have lived through violence in their Los Angeles neighborhood and put their bond to the test after a night that changes their lives forever.

According to the official description:

GULLY is the explosive and timely story of three boyhood friends—Calvin, Nicky and Jesse—surviving an upbringing in LA’s roughest neighborhoods. Steeped in violence but united by friendship, together they find their escape in one out-of-control night of partying. But when the rampage stops, retribution begins.

If the threat of rampage and retribution was intriguing, the trailer gives a bit more context, but still just a taste of the type of thought-provoking story Gully promises.

The film also stars Terrence Howard, Robin Givens, John Corbett, Mo McRae and Amber Heard.

Gully is produced by Brad Feinstein, Tom Butterfield, Ben Pugh, Corey Smyth, Alex Gergiou. With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation taking part in the production, Gully is clearly following in the footsteps of other films that have appealed to hip hop fans and film audiences alike, such as Hustle and Flow, which starred Howard and earned him an Academy Award nomination, and the originator of the inner city film subgenre, Boyz n the Hood by John Singleton.

Jay-Z is also executive producing ABC’s Women of the Movement miniseries as well as Netflix film The Harder They Fall, starring Majors in the starring role as an outlaw who goes on a journey of vengeance after finding out who killed his parents.
