Singer Michelle Williams has had enough with being confused with actress Michelle Williams.

The gospel singer, who was also a member of the group Destiny's Child, took to Facebook Live to complain about social media users showering her with insults. Williams said she started receiving backlash after the other Williams, a white actress, won an award at the Emmys on Sunday and gave a speech about equality.

“Let’s get one thing clear. How come when y’all are tagging and congratulating a person…Do y’all see that I’m Black when you go to my profile or tag, like when you search for the Michelle Williams? I am Black. Okay? I ain’t mixed with nothing. I ain’t mixed with Persian, Russian. I am Black,” she said on Facebook Live.

Williams won an award at the Emmys for her performance in Fosse/Verdon and gave a heartfelt speech about the difficulties many actresses, especially Black actresses, face when vying for roles.

Thousands of conservative viewers bashed the speech and criticized the actress for speaking about discrimination during her speech.

Thankfully, Williams said she was on the side of the actress and actually agreed with her speech.

“I thought [the speech] was her truth. I thought it was awesome. I thought she was factual. I could be wrong. But yo, I just told this woman a few minutes ago on my Instagram, I was like, ‘I’m so sorry that my namesake upset you. But can’t you see that I’m Black?’” Williams said.

“I stand beside Michelle Williams on her speech. She was beautiful. She was brilliant. Honey, she played Gwen Verdon to a T. She was awesome. Get it right and stop cussing me out. All right? Now I’ma slap you back into having a good day, ‘cause you almost tried to take me out of my peace.”
