Change may take time, but it's happening nonetheless.

British Vogue hired its first woman of color to shoot the cover of its January issue. The talented fashion and portrait photographer Nadine Ijewere was hired for the coveted opportunity to take pictures of singer Dua Lipa, model Binx Walton and actress Letitia Wright. Lipa shared how much of an honor it is to be shot by Ijewere on her Twitter.

The southeast London-bred 26-year-old has already worked with major celebrities like Rihanna for her Allure magazine cover. Ijewere, the child of a Nigerian father and Jamaican mother, described why she fell in love with photography.

"I completely fell in love with it. I discovered the many ways that I could tell stories with my images – especially when I incorporated fashion as well," Ijewere said in an interview with Vogue.

She also described how it feels to be represented by the magazine and what it means for other women like her in the industry.

"Honestly, it’s insane! I still find it hard to believe. Even a couple of months ago, I was saying that I hoped to work for Vogue someday, but I thought that dream was years and years away from becoming a reality," she said. "Beyond what the shoot has done for my career, it means a lot to me on a personal level. When I was studying, there were virtually no female photographers of color in this industry. I feel like in doing this I’m proving to younger girls from a similar background that it’s achievable."

Ijewere shared a post on Instagram of the cover with a heartwarming message about the opportunity:

If you had told me last year I would have photographed for @britishvogue I would have said not possible , if you had told me a cover I would have thought perhaps in a parallel universe ! I am so so grateful for this opportunity I have been given to shoot for a publication where I once felt perhaps I didn’t belong .
