Rising Democratic star Andrew Gillum will join CNN as a political commentator, according to reports.

The former Tallahassee mayor and candidate for Florida's governor became a new, refreshing voice for the beleaguered party during his gubernatorial candidacy in the 2018 midterm elections. After the Democratic Party lost the White House in 2016, Gillum — along with Democrats like Stacey Abrams from Georgia — emerged as part of a new slate of diverse candidates.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms Gillum will join former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former Sen. Jeff Flake (both Republican) and former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill as the newest additions to CNN's news team.

CNN's Brian Stelter, who covers media for the news organization, also celebrated the news in a recent tweet.

Gillum made a national splash during the 2018 midterms for challenging the Trump administration on and off the campaign trail.

On Twitter, the 39-year-old sparred with President Donald Trump over policies such as the controversial border wall. He also managed to ward off a slew of racist attacks while giving his Republican challenger, Ron DeSantis, a fight to the finish.

His fresh take on political issues will be welcomed, and we're hoping the Florida A&M grad continues giving Trump and his administration a piece of his mind.
