Tyler Perry and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum are working together for the first time on an upcoming thriller, Help. The film will be written by Star Trek: Discovery and Wrong Turn writer Alan McElroy and will start production in Atlanta next year at Tyler Perry Studios.

There currently isn’t much known about the film aside from it being a thriller. But it is clear that is in line with the recent trend of horror films about Black characters and Black experiences. While Black experiences in horror have been around for decades, the new trend was popularized by Jordan Peele’s films.

Perry and Blum will produce with Tim Palen under Perry and Palen’s Peachtree and Vine banner.

This new project adds to Blum’s already packed producing slate, which includes documentaries, TV series as well as movies. Some of his films in production include a Five Nights at Freddy’s film adaptation, an untitled paranormal thriller directed by John Ridley, and a remake of The Thing.

Perry’s producing slate currently includes the BET series All The Queen’s Men, based on Christian Keyes’ book Ladies Night. Starring Eva Marcille, the series follows a successful businesswoman in the nightclub industry who must balance monetary success with the problems that come her way in the world of exotic dancing.
