Comedian and film actor Anthony ‘AJ” Johnson has died at the age of 55.

Vibe Magazine shared the news to their Twitter followers Monday, writing that Johnson was found unresponsive in a store earlier this month. He was later pronounced dead at a Los Angeles hospital.

TMZ also reported the news, with Johnson’s nephew confirming reports that Johnson was found unresponsive in a Los Angeles store. No other news has been shared at this time, including his cause of death.

Johnson started in comedy in 1990 after being cast as E.Z.E. in the ’90s cult classic House Party starring Christopher “Kid” Reid and Christopher “Play” Martin. After featuring in the film, he proceeded to establish himself as a comedian with stand-up shows around the Los Angeles area.

Johnson is also best known for playing Ezal in another ’90s cult classic, Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. According to TMZ, he was rumored to return to the Friday universe in the film franchise’s upcoming sequel, Last Friday.

Johnson’s resume includes other popular shows and films from the ’90s and early ’00s, including B.A.P.S., House Party 3, How to Be a Player, The Players Club, Lethal Weapon 3, I Got The Hook Up, Martin, Def Comedy Jam, The Parent ‘Hood, Moesha, Malcolm & Eddie, The Jamie Foxx Show and more.
