Two-time Olympic medalist Sha’Carri Richardson is spearheading a new campaign, titled “Your POV, Your Power.” This initiative celebrates the influence of young creative entrepreneurs, empowering them to shape the future of fashion through their unique perspectives and innovative approaches.

Known for her bold and distinct style both on and off the track, Richardson is an ideal athlete that comes to mind when thinking about merging fashion and athletics. In her conversations with entrepreneurs, she connects directly with Depop sellers, exploring their journeys of turning a passion for fashion into sustainable and profitable businesses. These intimate discussions provide actionable insights into building a successful brand, including tips on creating engaging, detail-oriented content, curating structured schedules, and understanding customer needs.

Through this series, the campaign also aims to showcase the potential of platforms that enable individuals to go beyond selling unwanted items and instead create economic opportunities driven by personal style and entrepreneurial spirit.

The partnership, launched in collaboration with Cash App and Depop, provides an additional incentive for sellers. Through the end of the month, Depop sellers who use Cash App’s direct deposit feature can qualify for a chance to win up to $100 to reinvest in their shops, with up to 3,000 sellers eligible for this opportunity. By leveraging Cash App’s direct deposit feature, sellers can manage their earnings while focusing on what they love most.

As the “Your POV, Your Power” campaign wraps up, Richardson spoke with Blavity about the importance of having tools and platforms that empower the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs. The sprinter emphasized the value of accessible resources that help individuals turn their passions into financial independence and build a legacy of innovation.

What inspired you to collaborate with Depop and Cash App on this initiative to empower creative entrepreneurs?

When I was approached to collaborate with Cash App and Depop, I saw an opportunity to support and highlight a generation of entrepreneurs using their unique perspectives and creativity to build something meaningful. Fashion is such a great avenue for self-expression, and the idea of helping people turn that creativity into financial independence using easily accessible tools like Cash App and platforms like Depop really resonated with me.

How do you think the “Your POV, Your Power” campaign will help redefine what fashion entrepreneurship means for a new generation, mainly when social media is used as a catalyst?

SR: It’s no longer about following trends but creating your own trends and building a community around your style. Social media is a game-changing resource that allows sellers to amplify their message and grow their business acceleratedly. I also love this campaign because Depop sellers can win up to $100 to develop their shops when they use Cash App’s direct deposit feature to deposit their Depop earnings into Cash App.

Can you share more about the digital series and how it will showcase the journey from passion to profit for Depop sellers?

I loved talking to Depop sellers to learn more about how they are turning their love of fashion into a sustainable business and their secrets for success. Each episode in the series covers a different lesson, from discovering your style to mastering the art of curation and achieving financial profitability. Seeing others share their growth and success stories can be inspiring for people starting out

As an athlete known for your unique style, how do you see the intersection of sports and fashion influencing this campaign?

This campaign’s intersection of sports and fashion centers on empowerment and individuality. I know what it means to turn a personal passion into financial freedom, so I was excited about this campaign that helps entrepreneurs manage, grow and invest.

What personal experiences have shaped your perspective on the power of individual style on and off the track?

I didn’t necessarily always fit into the traditional mold of what people think an athlete “should” look like, but learning to embrace and celebrate my individuality and style has been key to my success on and off the track.

What advice would you give aspiring entrepreneurs looking to turn their passion into a successful business?

The best advice I can give is to stay true to your vision and who you are. It can be tempting to follow trends, but the real magic happens when you build something that’s authentic to you. Tap into resources like Cash App and Depop, which allow for financial independence and the opportunity to build connections and a community.

How does the partnership between Depop and Cash App enhance opportunities for creative entrepreneurs in the fashion industry?

Cash App helps entrepreneurs manage and expand their earnings by making finance more relatable and bridging the gap between finance and culture. Depop gives them the space to be creative and share their unique style. Giving entrepreneurs access to these resources that can help build their businesses from all sides removes barriers and makes entrepreneurship more accessible to everyone.

How do you think platforms like Depop and other marketplaces are changing the landscape for young designers and fashion enthusiasts by allowing them to connect and collaborate?

They are really leveling the playing field for young designers and fashion enthusiasts by allowing them an alternative route to the traditional fashion industry. This new generation of designers can connect with like-minded entrepreneurs, collaborate and build a community. It’s exciting to see how these platforms are reshaping the landscape.
