Late last week, Rihanna attended the Global Partnership for Education's financial conference in Senegal. According to the Clara Lionel Foundation, the artist joined world leaders to raise over $2.3 billion dollars to fund education in the Global South.

Rihanna started the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012, and joined forces with the Global Partnership for Education in 2016. The foundation, which supports and funds education, health, arts and emergency response programs around the globe, is named after her grandparents Clara and Lionel Braithwaithe. 

As the Global Partnership's global ambassador, Rih Rih was on deck with the event's co-hosts, French president Emmanuel Macron and Senegalese president Macky Sall, the Associated Press reports.

"We've made tremendous progress today, but of course our work is never done. We have a long way to go. This is a fight that we are never going to stop fighting until every boy and every girl has access to education," Rihanna said.

The Global Partnership for Education hopes to raise a total of 3.8 billion dollars to fund education throughout the world; it hopes to enroll the estimated 264 million children worldwide who do not go to school in classes.

In his remarks, Macron said education is “the only single response” to extremist groups like Al Shabaab, Boko Haram and ISIS, and promised France would give $248 million (200 million euros) to the fund.

"Supporting education is not a choice we can make or not make, it is a necessity," said Macron.

Rihanna, who routinely uses her social media platform effectively, took to Twitter to call on several world leaders to follow Macron's suit and join in donating.
