In 2002, Jammer was drafted as the No. 5 pick, and he played for the San Diego Chargers for 12 years. Sports Illustrated reported that Jammer retired in 2013.
“True story……. In 2011 I played completely shit faced drunk in at least 8 games,” he wrote on X.
Jammer answered fan questions and said he played well in all but one game, in which he said, “I was out there seeing sh*t that wasn’t there!”
Jammer shared that his drink of choice was tequila or bourbon. In 2011, Jammer played in 15 games. His performance dipped as he recorded 10 touchdowns and 10.5 yards per attempt, according to USA Today.
Quentin Jammer said he drank to cope with his divorce
Jammer opened up about difficulties performing on the field while going through a divorce.
“I went through something so traumatic that I could only cope with alcohol,” he wrote in response to someone mentioning the NFL might take away his pension after his revelations. “Ppl always concerned abt player $$$ and not the person going thru a traumatic period in his life.”
“It’s hard playing football when so much is on your mind,” he told NFL.com in 2012, referring to his divorce. “Last year, let’s just put it out there, was not my best year.”
“I would try to shake myself out of it, get the cobwebs out and just think,” he added. “But there were so many things to deal with, so much was going through my head. I couldn’t focus.”
Quentin Jammer highlighted the importance of vulnerability among men
Jammer snapped back at comments criticizing his past actions and his decision to open up.
“Football players deal with life problems also. Problems don’t care who you are or what you do. Damn sure don’t care abt the amt of money you make,” he wrote on X. “I heal the way I wanna heal. U don’t like it then F*CK YOU! Period n***as!”
The former NFL player thanked those who sent him messages of support. He also explained his decision to share this information and said it is to preserve his mental health.
“I’m just getting out the negative sh*t to the world so it can’t continue consume me. Embarrassing sh*t should b shared so it holds no power!” he wrote.
“U know why n*ggas kill themselves? Because they can’t b vulnerable. So all that sh*t just gets trapped with nowhere to go,” Jammer added in another message. “To embarrassed to ask for help. Family watching them deteriorate. But go ahead bash me for being vulnerable. I ain’t dead n***a!!”
Jammer also criticized coverage of his revelations. He regretted that the main takeaway was that he played football while drunk.
“Definitely makes me sad that a lot of ya’ll saw that tweet as ‘player admits to playing drunk’ instead of the message. Being vulnerable as a man is a f**kin superpower. Saves lives. Proven,” he wrote.
“Prolly could have gotten the rest of the story outta me. F**k it I’ll die wit it now!” he added. “Last thing any n***a that can’t accept helpful information are the softest n***as in the world. Can’t accept healthy changes.”
