Paris Jackson revealed she has a perforated septum due to her past drug use. The daughter of the late Michael Jackson posted a video online in which she showed the injury and addressed it for the first time. The 27-year-old, who is currently six years sober after having an alcohol and heroin addiction, also invited viewers not to do drugs, as she said, “it ruined my life.”
What is a perforated septum?
A perforated septum, or a septal perforation, is a hole in the cartilage or bone in between the nostrils. It is often caused by injuries and conditions that damage the blood vessels in the nose, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Jackson showed the injury using a phone torch and added that it is due to “what you think it’s from,” while telling viewers not to do drugs.
“I realize I have never actually addressed this, and it can sometimes be very noticeable. I have a really loud whistle. If you go back to videos, you can hear it when I breathe through my nose, and that is because I have what is called a perforated septum,” Jackson said in a TikTok video. “Slightly different from a deviated septum, and that is… it’s what you think it’s from. Don’t do drugs kids.”
“I mean everyone’s going to have the experience they need to have with life,” she added. “I’m not going to tell anyone what to do, but I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.”

Jackson added that she doesn’t want to get it corrected via plastic surgery since it would require her to take heavy medical treatment that she is concerned may jeopardize her sobriety.
“I don’t want to get plastic surgery to fix it because I’m almost six years sober, and so you have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly, and I don’t want to f*** with that,” she said.
Paris Jackson opened up about her sobriety in the past
In January, Jackson shared a significant milestone on social media. She celebrated five years of sobriety.
“i’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. “today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. to say that i’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. gratitude hardly scratches the surface. it’s because i’m sober that i get to smile today. i get to make music. i get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. i get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. i get to grieve. i get to laugh. i get to dance. i get to trust. i feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. i’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether i’m sober or not, but today i get to show up for it.”
Jackson has used her public platform to communicate on her sobriety. In October, she said she hoped to help others by being transparent about her journey.
“I’m really grateful to be a part of a movement that aligns so much with my higher purpose and the essence of my daily reprieve,” Jackson said while accepting the Shining Star Award at the Friendly House Awards Luncheon, according to CNN. “Getting someone to develop conscious contact has easily been the greatest action I’ve ever taken, and I pray that I can continue to help others.”
