Winner of the Gotham award for Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You – Terence Nance's An Oversimplification of Her Beauty – will continue to claim that title, because, while it's now been acquired by a distribution company, the deal is specifically for US non-theatrical distribution (as in strictly home video/digital/VOD).
Nance’s acclaimed debut (it was one of the most interesting and engaging films I saw at Sundance earlier this year – read my review HERE), has been acquired by Cinema Guild – again, for non-theatrical distribution.
Also worth noting is that Jay-Z has signed on as one of the film's executive producers. The deal was negotiated by Ryan Krivoshey of Cinema Guild with Traction Media.
But don't fret, those of you who were hoping for a theatrical, as Nance does intend to release his film theatrically early next year, before the home video roll-out.
When we have details on that, so will you.
