Authorities say that a motorist drove a Home Depot truck onto a bicycle path near the World Trade Center memorial today, striking multiple people, according to CBS News. The driver crashed into another vehicle, then emerged holding a fake gun.
Police shot him five or six times an eyewitness told WNYC, then took him into custody.
Police on the scene captured only one suspect, the man who was driving the rental truck. NPR reports that police believe the man acted alone.
Early estimates indicate that six people have died from the incident and nearly 15 people, and counting, are injured.
First responders were seen cordoning off the area and rushing away the wounded.

While police have not officially called the act a terrorist attack, they do believe that the attack was deliberate.
