A false report of a gunman near the U.S. Naval Academy triggered a lockdown in September
According to the Associated Press, a false report of a gunman near the same U.S. Naval Academy triggered a lockdown in September, leading to confusion and chaos on campus. The school claimed a call reporting a shooting prompted an immediate emergency response and lockdown procedures, even though authorities later confirmed there was no active shooter.
During the incident, a midshipman and a Navy police officer were wounded by gunfire, though details on how the shots were fired remained unclear at the time.
The academy later released a statement confirming the injuries and clarifying that the initial report of an active shooter was unfounded. Officials said they were working to determine what happened and to review the academy’s security protocols following the false alarm.
