Comedian Michael Blackson has officially become an American citizen. The 49-year-old Ghanian entertainer, who came to the U.S. as a 13-year-old, took to social media on Thursday to express his thoughts about becoming an American citizen.
"They finally made me an American citizen. Only foreigners will understand why I’m smiling and what we go thru to get a green card or citizenship," he wrote on Instagram.
Blackson, of course, had to throw in some jokes about his big moment.
I’ve been an American for 2 hrs and I hate foreigners already

Today I’m turning this in back to the U.S immigration. For those who don’t know what this is it’s a green card, this is what every foreigner that comes to America will die for lol. Today I’m turning it in for my citizenship. Can’t wait to swear in so I can apply for welfare. pic.twitter.com/bwh3gHqJvW

On a more serious note, the comedian is especially looking forward to voting as an American citizen.
I know a few foreigners who came to America way after me and became citizens in like 5 yrs. Me on the other hand been wilding out and celebrating like I’ve won the lottery because it took me over 30 yrs. I can’t wait to finally VOTE.

According to Complex, the 49-year-old lived in New Jersey after he moved to the U.S. with his family as a teenager. He gained recognition after he appeared in the classic movie Next Friday in 2000. Since then, the comedian has starred in Coming 2 America, 30 Rock and Are We There Yet?
Blackson spoke with TMZ after becoming an American citizen.
"[America] made me this bigger, better person that would help the world. America has been nothing but a blessing to me, and I’m happy to be a citizen,” he told the outlet. “Just like everybody else that comes to America, they come here for this American Dream, and I really am living the American Dream.”
The African native said he is considering the possibility of running for mayor or governor. Blackson said he will reach out to Arnold Schwarzenegger for advice about a career in politics.
