A fake Twitter account tried to stir up some controversy for Latto, but the 23-year-old artist came to shut it down. It all started when a fake Pop Base account, disguised under a username called PoeBase, tried to spread rumors involving Lil Wayne and Latto.

“Lil Wayne has denied Latto’s requests to sample his 2008 hit ‘Lollipop’ in upcoming single, HITSDD reports,” the fake account wrote.

Latto, of course, didn’t have time for the shenanigans.

“POV: u don’t even have a song sampling lollipop,” she wrote in response to the fake rumor.

The real Pop Base account later responded to Latto’s tweet to confirm that the rumor started from a fake page.

Several gullible social media users were already running with the rumor before Latto spoke up.

Fans of Nicki Minaj were especially triggered when they saw the fake rumor about Latto. As Blavity previously reported, Minaj took shots at Latto when she recently went to Instagram to say that Grammy organizers are favoring newer artists.

Minaj said her hit song “Super Freaky Girl” was shifted from the rap category to the pop division on a preliminary ballot because Grammy organizers wanted to make room for Latto’s “Big Energy” track.

“If ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is pop, then so is ‘Big Energy’,” Minaj said. “If you move ‘Super Freaky Girl’ out of rap and put it in pop, do the same thing with ‘Big Energy.’ Same producers on both songs, by the way. So let’s keep s**t fair.”

After falling for the fake rumor, the Barbz were appalled by the thought of Latto going to Lil Wayne, who mentored Minaj. According to All Hip Hop, Minaj rose to fame in the late 2000s after working with Lil Wayne.

Minaj fans can now breathe, now knowing it was all fake.
