A homeless man has received hundreds of job offers after a photo of him handing out resumes on the side of the road went viral.
Many people would think David Casarez was properly prepared for a move to the Bay Area. He arrived in September 2017 with a college degree, three years of experience in software development and a few months’ salary saved up. Sadly, it was no match for Silicon Valley’s astronomical cost of living.
"If you want to come out here and play with the big dogs, this is where you have to be," he told NBC Bay Area.
The 26-year-old slept in his van until it was taken in June, and now he sleeps on a park bench. Determined, he decided to stand at an intersection with a poster board and a stack of resumes, hoping the right people would notice him.
"This is my make it or break it moment," Casarez said. "I have to do something crazy."
Jasmine Scofield spotted him, took a picture of Casarez and his resume and posted it on Twitter.

The tweet went viral and support for the Texas A&M graduate poured in.

Casarez has received over 200 job offers since the tweet was posted.
“Google reached out to me,” he told the New York Post. “So many other companies. Pandora. A bunch of startups. A product manager from Bitcoin.com was wondering if I could work remotely or if I want to relocate to Tokyo.”
It looks like Casarez won’t be on that park bench for much longer.
