With American politics notoriously oversaturated with older adults, we finally have our first-ever congressional Gen Zer: Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Fla.).

As Blavity previously reported, Frost hit the scene as a progressive candidate looking to represent Florida’s 10th Congressional District, and the 25-year-old ultimately won on Nov. 8, 2022.

In honor of Frost’s groundbreaking win, we’ve compiled a list of six things to know about him.

He was adopted as an infant

Starting off with some personal details about Frost, we should note that he was adopted into a Cuban American family shortly after birth.

“A victim of the system and enmeshed in trying circumstances, my biological mother was caught in a cycle of drugs, crime and violence while pregnant. She didn’t have healthcare and wasn’t able to see a doctor even once. As the mother of seven, she made the difficult decision to put me up for adoption because she lacked the resources to care for and raise another child,” Frost shares in the “Meet Maxwell” section of his website, Frost for Congress.

His adoptive mother and father respectively spent their careers working as a special education teacher and musician, Business Insider reports.

He has mad love for his grandma

While on the subject of his family, we must acknowledge Frost’s love for his grandmother, Yeya.

One quick scroll through his socials shows this congressional Gen Zer expressing how much he loves and admires Yeya, who immigrated from Cuba in the 1960s and helped raise Frost.

“My family’s story begins in Cuba, with my grandmother Yeya. She and my mother came to Florida from Cuba during the Freedom Flights in the early 1960s with only a suitcase and no money. My grandmother worked in Miami factories more than 70 hours a week, where she was exploited and was forced to accept harsh working conditions in order to make a life for her family,” he shares on his website.

Sadly, she passed away just last month at the age of 97.

He was in a band back during high school

Throwing it back to the early 2010s, readers should know that Frost was in a salsa band called Seguro Que Si, which translates to “of course” in English.

He played the timbales, and NPR featured the group in 2013 for notably performing during the Inaugural Parade, which went down shortly after Barack Obama was sworn in for his second term.

He admires Barack Obama

Getting to perform at for Obama’s inaugural parade was a huge opportunity for Frost, especially since he — like many other Gen Zers — has love for our 44th president.

He's an OG Harry Styles stan

While in the trenches of his Twitter, we also found out that Frost is an OG “Styler,” as he managed to nab a picture with Harry Styles back in 2014.

Perhaps they’ll reunite now that Frost is a full-fledged congressman, though only time will tell!
