The federal government shut down at midnight Jan. 20, one year to the day of President Donald Trump's inauguration. Like clockwork, people shared their opinions, debated with others and expressed their outrage on social media —causing #GovernmentShutdown and #TrumpShutdown to trend for most of Saturday morning.
Among those sharing their thoughts on the recent shutdown, was former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. It seems he had some time and decided to go in on U.S. policymakers who, once again, have failed the American people. In a series of tweets, Holder dropped knowledge about the shutdown and called out Republicans for failing to help fund social programs designed to better protect kids of color in America.
There is wide and bipartisan support to protect #Dreamers, but GOP still might shut down the government.
This fight shows how gerrymandering allows politicians to ignore the will of voters & makes compromise difficult. We need to fix this broken systemhttps://t.co/cFrfmSIYuR

R’s kill CHIP & DACA for political reasons-Now demand a bill that only brings CHIP back. Put a bill on the floor that protects #Dreamers AND funds CHIP. Will easily pass. Extremist R’s (not all R’s) are preventing this-real reason for the possible shutdown.

McConnell asks “how did we get here?” Here’s why Mitch- because you and your party don’t give a damn about DACA kids. And don’t forget your party has left CHIP kids without health coverage for months because YOU decided not to fund the program.Hypocrite.Trump shutdown is on you

Republican Congressional “leadership” – dare you to allow a vote on a bill that includes CHIP and DACA fixes. You won’t- even though you know it will easily pass- because the extremists in your party really set your party’s agenda. Truly sad.

Republicans in safe gerrymandered seats can vote for #TrumpShutdown in spite of what their constituents want. Polls show American people overwhelmingly are for #Dreamers AND for CHIP health care for kids. We will fight for fair redistricting. @DemRedistrict
