Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are windswept lovers in the much buzzed-about adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film takes Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel and adds more steaminess, bodice-ripping and modernity with original songs by Charli xcx.

Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell also star.

What some fans are saying about the movie already

Online, fans of the original book are heated, but not because they’re swooning. Some fans have pointed out that Heathcliff, the hero of the story, is described as being darker-skinned or “swarthy,” which was a term once used to describe people of Indian, Middle Eastern, or other non-white heritage. Some also believe Brontë might have meant him to be Romani (who also originated from India and migrated about 1,000 years ago).

While it’s not clear who Latif might be playing, he could have made a perfect Heathcliff to assuage fans. Also, many online are voicing how they wanted Dev Patel to play the character.

When will ‘Wuthering Heights’ be in theaters?
