On the red carpet at the 2025 Emmys, Hacks star Hannah Einbinder confirmed that the HBO Max comedy will conclude with its fifth season.
According to Variety, Einbinder, who took home an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy Award later that evening, teased what’s to come from the show’s final curtain call and why it’s time to wrap it up.
Einbinder said the show’s final season will ‘feel different’
While speaking with E! host Heather McMahan, Einbinder confirmed the upcoming fifth season of Hacks will be its last and fans of the show should expect it to “feel different.”
“We’re going to start [filming] next week, and knowing it’s the last season is really bittersweet. But I think it’s right, you know? It’s nice to do something as many times as it should be done. Not overstay your welcome. Rip it and do it and laugh and cry,” she told McMahan.
McMahan repeated “rip it” back to Einbinder, who playfully told the interviewer, “You can quote me on that. I’m going on the record on that.”
Einbinder has also gone viral for her acceptance speech in which she concluded with a message directed to the camera: “Go Birds, f**k ICE and free Palestine,” she said.
Series creators say they’ve known how ‘Hacks’ will end for a decade
Hacks creators Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have said they envisioned the comedy as a five-season show. However, HBO Max has yet to announce the show’s upcoming conclusion. After the Season 4 finale, the showrunners explained that they had known how the show would end for a while but were still figuring out how to get there, according to Variety.
“We are now breaking up Season 5, and we have to see how many episodes it will take us to get to where we know we’re going to go,” Downs said. “The final scene of the final episode has been in our minds since 2015, and we’re excited to get there. But that may take more episodes than we can fit in the season. So the truth is that we don’t know.”
When is the final season of ‘Hacks’ expected?
The fifth season of Hacks is expected in 2026.
