A new holiday film is combining two classics!

The Night Before Christmas In Wonderland, a Sky original film streaming in the U.S. on Prime Video and Hulu, blends the whimsicalness of Alice in Wonderland with classic Christmas film realness. Bridgerton actress Simone Ashley, who stars in the film, recently shared her insights on what makes this project so unique.

“It’s two classics, merged together,” Ashley explained in a recent interview with Blavity’s Shadow and Act. “So if you want some classic feelings of Christmas, then this is the perfect one because it’s just double of that. They are two stories that we are really well known for their cadences, their rhythm, and how you read them. And I think that’s why they kind of work so well together. I think it’s the escapism of Wonderland and that cozy, safety, warm feeling of Christmas. I think it’s really different and it’s quite special.”

Ashley, who also sings in the film, gave kudos to one of the film’s music composers, Amy Wadge.

“Amy is just incredible. I love her,” Ashley enthused. “She wrote our amazing soundtrack and she let me turn one of the songs that Alice sings with the Queen into something more acoustic and more Christmasy in a different kind of way. So I’m really grateful to her for that.”

Ashley’s love for animation is another driving force behind her involvement. “I grew up watching so many animated movies. It was kind of all I consumed when I was a kid, so that really is a big nostalgic thing for me,” she shared. “And as a performer, I kind of want to give something back and do that for this younger generation, for them to have great animated films to watch and engage with. To be really honest, they’re so great to kind of schedule around when I’m doing a live-action film or something, because the beauty of animation, you can record it wherever, whenever really, and it’s less days as well. So I’m just always, if it’s a material that I really respond to, I’m just like, ‘why not?’ Because I love animated movies, and the more I can be a part of, I’m very happy about.”
