NBC’s newest comedy, St. Denis Medical starring David Alan Grier, has been greenlit for a second season.
The network announced the new season alongside the news that the series has earned several nominations, including Critics Choice Association Awards nominations for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Grier. Grier also received a nomination from the NAACP Image Awards for his role as emergency physician Ron.
The series, filmed in a mockumentary style about an understaffed and underfunded Oregon hospital in which the doctors and nurse do their best to treat their patients, has quickly found an audience with fans loving its gentle, yet hilarious atmosphere.
Along with Grier, St. Denis Medical also stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper and Kaliko Kauahi.
Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin co-created and executive produce the series, with Ledgin serving as showrunner. Other executive producers include Simon Heuer, Ruben Fleischer, Bridget Kyle and Vicky Luu.
