Mahershala Ali is in talks to join the ensemble cast of director J.C. Chandor’s action-drama “Triple Frontier,” a project that’s been in the works for several years (we first alerted you to it 7 years ago) and finally looks to be heading into production.

Scripted by Mark Boal, specific story details are still under wraps, other than the logline: An action-adventure story set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil (aka, the Triple Frontier) – a haven for organized crime that’s difficult for authorities to control.

Should he sign on, Ali will join then previously cast Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment are producing along with Boal, known for his collaborations with director Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Hurt Locker,” and her “Untitled Detroit Project”).

The project is set up at Paramount Pictures.

Ali currently appears in 2 of the most talked-about films of the awards season: “Hidden Figures” and “Moonlight.” He is also now an Oscar nominee for his performance in the latter.

Coming up, he co-stars in the 2017 Sundance break out selection “Roxanne Roxanne,” and is currently filming Robert Rodriguez’s “Alita: Battle Angel.”
