Bob Marley: One Love‘s Kingsley Ben-Adir and Saltburn‘s Archie Madekwe have been tapped to play long-lost brothers in the upcoming drama The Arrival. Filming has wrapped in London.
According to Deadline and Variety, the film is based on the play by Olivier Award-winning theatrical director Bijan Sheibani, who also wrote the film’s script. Deadline reports the film is described as a “gut-wrenching depiction of identity, obsession and betrayal,” following Tom (Ben-Adir) and Raheem (Madekwe), two brothers who were separated by adoption. Joanna Scanlan and Alex Descas also star.
What to know about the plot of ‘The Arrival’
As a baby, Tom was put up for adoption by Scanlan and Descas’ characters, and Tom and Raheem’s “exhilarating and uncanny experience” of meeting a blood brother for the first time as adults, leads them to trying to understand their childhoods and how their parents’ decisions affected them as adults. According to the film’s description as reported by Deadline, ” As the brothers grow closer, seduced by the idea of their shared history finally making sense, they must confront the uncomfortable truths at the heart of their family, and the impossible decision that their parents made 30 years ago.”
The Arrival is Sheibani’s feature debut.
Who is producing the film?
BFI’s Senior Production and Development Executive Ama Ampadu, who also serves as an executive producer on the film, said in a statement how The Arrival brings Sheibani’s perspective to the silver screen.
“In The Arrival, Bijan Sheibani is bringing his unique voice and style to create a film that deftly explores issues of identity and roads not taken,” said Ampadu. “Following his success in theatre and based on his play of the same name, Bijan and his producer Theo Barrowclough have brought together a fantastic team and an exciting cast, led by Archie Madekwe and Kingsley Ben-Adir, to create a gripping, striking and heartfelt debut feature.”
Other producers include Michael Fassbender, Daniel Emmerson and Conor McCaughan for Fassbender’s DMC Film, and House Productions’ Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell and Theo Barrowclough. Neil also serves as producer, with Film4’s David Kimbangi executive producing with BFI’s Ampadu.
