The most recent episode of It: Welcome to Derry on HBO potentially just revealed a new link to the original It timeline.

Marge Truman (Matilda Lawler), one of the kids living in midcentury Derry, Maine, was near death when she and Rich Santos (Arian S. Cartaya) were trapped in a burning bar, as Decider reported.

The bar was attacked by a racist mob, with Clint Bowers (Peter Outerbridge) at the head.

Rich, who likes Marge, tells them that they could both fit inside a small refrigerator and survive. But it’s clear that only one person can fit. Rich sacrifices himself for Marge, despite her protestations. During Rich’s last moments, they both reveal they love each other.

Does this mean Marge is Richie’s mother? Here are the easter eggs

Rich saving Marge helps make King’s original timeline make sense because, as Decider says, Marge is more than likely Richie Tozier’s mother. First, because of Richie’s name. But also because they both look alike and, as written in King’s book, Richie’s mom is named “Maggie.” Both “Marge” and “Maggie” are nicknames for “Margaret,” which is Marge’s real name.

The easter eggs fall in line with Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s statements to Decider. They revealed that there would be “at least two twists” that tied original It characters to this new HBO series. This moment with Marge is certainly a pathos-laden moment important enough to be a connection to the original It storyline.
