After scant details and many, many rumors about what the plot could be, Universal Pictures has unveiled some official information about Christopher Nolan’s next film.

The film will be based on Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, and Universal describes it as “a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.” The studio added, “the film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time.” It currently has a release date of July 17, 2026.

The film’s cast includes Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron. Nolan will write and produce the film with his Syncopy partner Emma Thomas.

Written by ancient Grecian writer Homer, The Odyssey follows Odysseus, the leader of a crew of soldiers who are trying to get home after the Trojan War. Along the way, Odysseus and his crew fall prey to mythological creatures like sirens and various tests of strength and endurance.

Who will Zendaya and Lupita Nyong’o play in ‘The Odyssey’?

It’s way too early to know what as to what roles Zendaya, Nyong’o, or any of the other cast will play, but it’s not a reach to believe that Nyong’o or Zendaya, but either could be a variety of characters, with many online sleuths thinking Zendaya could be Athena, goddess of wisdom, or Nausicca, a princess of the Phaeacians. Some casting speculation and fan ideas say that Nyong’o could be Athena or the goddess/sorceress Circe.
