106 & Park is getting a reboot and coming back to BET…but it may not be in the same way that you think.
Longtime fans of BET’s music countdown show can start feeling like it’s the early 2000s again.
Vibe reports that BET’s president and CEO Scott Mills has confirmed that the network is in the process of rebooting the series. But this time, the series will be formatted for a new, digital audience.
“We understand people love 106 & Park,” he said. “…The fact that it doesn’t work as a linear television show doesn’t mean it’s over. We can bring 106 & Park back as a podcast. We can bring 106 & Park back as a digital experience.”
Mills said that the rebooted series will drop sometime in 2025, more than likely coinciding with the series’ 25th anniversary of the show’s original 2000 launch date. If you want to read some tea leaves, the reboot could come around September, since the original series debuted Sept. 11, 2000.
Mills described the show as having a “very important role” in 2025, saying, “We’ve got a number of really exciting executions. We’re approaching the 25th anniversary of 106 & Park as well, so there’ll be some things that y’all will really be excited about.”
